A U.S. Residence Visa, also known as an immigrant visa, is intended for individuals who plan to live permanently in the United States. This category includes family-based immigration, employment-based immigration, and special categories such as the Diversity Visa program. Applicants must have an approved petition—usually filed by a qualifying family member or employer—before beginning the immigrant visa process at the National Visa Center. The process includes submitting civil and financial documents, completing the DS-260 immigrant visa application, and attending a medical examination with an authorized panel physician. Applicants are also required to attend an interview at a U.S. Embassy or Consulate, where their eligibility is evaluated. Once approved, they receive an immigrant visa that allows them to enter the United States as a lawful permanent resident. Upon arrival, they receive a Green Card, granting the right to live and work in the country indefinitely.
